Frequently Asked Questions

  • Dr. Sarah’s goal is to provide you with a seamless virtual treatment experience from start to finish.

Sleep & Shine offers convenient online scheduling, a 100% paperless intake process, and 100% cost transparency.

Dr. Sarah is one of less than 800 sleep specialists in the world with specialized behavioral sleep medicine training and one of the very few sleep specialists that trained at the Stanford Sleep Medicine Center, the birthplace of sleep medicine in the US.

  • Clinical psychologists are bound by state licensure regulations. You must live in one of the following states (where Dr. Sarah is licensed and has credentials to practice) in order to work together and meet via telehealth:

AL, AZ, AR, CO, CT, DE, DC, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, ME, MD, MI, MN, MO, NE, NV, NH, NJ, NY, NC, ND, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WV, WI, WY

At the time of service, you’ll need to be physically located in your primary state of residence.

  • Like most specialty providers, Dr. Sarah does not participate in any insurance plans and is considered an “out-of-network” provider. Payment is due in full at the time of service, and you can easily access a “superbill” after your visit is complete. This is a medical receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for help with reimbursement.

  • If your insurance plan offers out-of-network benefits, it means they will cover a portion of the cost when you see a provider who doesn't have a direct contract with your insurance company.

Unlike in-network providers, who bill your insurance company directly, with out-of-network providers, you typically pay for the session upfront and then submit a claim to your insurance for possible reimbursement.

Insurance companies often reimburse a percentage of the session cost, usually after you meet an out-of-network deductible. For example, after you meet a $1,000 deductible, your insurance may reimburse 50-80% of the session cost.

  • Dr. Sarah has partnered with Mentaya, a platform that helps you use your out-of-network benefits to save money on sleep therapy.

Use Mentaya’s reimbursement calculator down below to see if you qualify for reimbursement. It’s free to check and get an individualized estimate of your session costs using your out-of-network benefits.

If you have any out-of-network benefits, Mentaya can file claims and handle the insurance paperwork to facilitate reimbursement for you. This is a completely optional and recommended service saving you time, money, and frustration.

  • Everyone is unique, but on average, treatment is 4-6 visits in total. Sessions are usually scheduled 2-3 weeks apart. Improvements in sleep quality can happen in a few weeks with consistent practice.

  • No. In fact, most people start sleep therapy while taking sleep aids. Dr. Sarah will work with you and your prescribing healthcare provider to develop a safe and strategic plan to slowly taper and discontinue medication use.

  • No, not at this time. Sleep & Shine is an adult practice.

  • Dr. Sarah kindly asks for at least 48 hours notice to reschedule or cancel an appointment. Thanks for your understanding!
